This is only my 3rd render where I've tried to create a 'realistic' image, so I learned a lot in making it. The concept is a candid photo of a girl taken on a hot summer night during a party up on the Overlook.
Things I messed up on: 1. Somehow I managed to screw up the alpha and DOF maps, and as the render took approx. 15 hours, I wasn't about to do it all again. That meant I had to do DOF by hand
2. I regret giving her boyshorts. I think the skimpiness detracts from the supposed candid 'slice of life' realism. Also, they're not very interesting.
3. The light was supposed to replicate a camera's flashbulb but ended up being too soft, in my opinion. I think a flash would create harsher highlights and shadows.
4. I need to learn how to draw hair better
There was a billion other mistakes I made during production but I'll spare you the list. All in all a good learning experience, though.
Yeah 15 hours... my system's not the fastest , and yes I used SSS (just getting the hang of it). I learned a lot from this piece so I have high hopes for my next one. Thanks for the comment!
It's really difficult to make 3D seem real... the devil's in the details and all that. There's a lot of things I wish I could change with this one, but I'm happy with it as a piece I learned a lot on. Thanks!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Our new suddenly doujinshi circle: カポリット屋 will release another collaboration title next year and since we already decided that our next fandom would be focusing with Sweet Pool title~ We decided to make a fan art contest in order to celebrate and encourage you guys to keep supporting us~XD

The photonotes.org Dictionary of Film and Digital Photography is one place to stop and get it all answered. This is quite a valuable resource that explains in depth what a photography term means, and will help those understand who might not know what something is.
