THIS IS...
...one of my favourite times of year... Happy October, Everyone!

I'll start this little update with a request for help:
Anyone know of an abandoned farm house, houses, warehouses, or other creepy locations in the Victoria/South Island region? This is for a photo project. If you have any info, send me a note!

Item #2: For the first time in many years, I actually managed to finish my own website. This is actually quite an accomplishment as I tend to work on everyone else's project but my own. Take a peek!

If you're looking to get your own website, I'd love to help you out!

Article C.: Congrats to the Sunday Buckets boys for winning The Zone Band of the Month! If you're in Victoria, come rock out at their Halloween bash, Evolution Nightclub, Oct. 29th 9pm. You'll find me there dressed as a Julie Newmar-esque Cat Woman. Meeow!

Section IV: Just a quick thanks for all your support. October/November is going to be even busier for me than the summer was, as two big projects take off. Exciting times, comrades. Exciting times.

Hope you're all well and on your best behavior for the Great Pumpkin!
Much Love,
Mike.

An unexpected visitor.

He IS a ferret... right?

Last night my dog started going nuts by the front door. I opened the door and saw this little, dark brown furry fella cowering on my doorstep.
I thought he looked like a baby ferret so I took him in, put him in a box, and fed him some canned dog food and water. I was thinking perhaps he was one a neighbour's pet.
Now I'm not so sure. Right now he's barking at me from the box, telling me he wants out.
He's a ferret, right?

Edit >> the Animal Rescue Centre is 90% sure he's a mink. He's with them now, so I hope they can figure it out before they re-release him back into the wild.

One year.

One year on dA and another year older.

So I'm another year older (a little wiser), and celebrating one year on dA.
deviantART has been really good to me. I've met a lot of inspiring people, found a few business contacts, and made some good friends. It's been invigorating to be involved in such a creative community... thanks to all you guys for a great year!

As far as work goes, I've been picking up a steadily increasing amount of design work which is good, I need the cash :). I'd like more commissions for illustrations, but I have to promote myself a bit more on that front.
The Cold Harbor Project is slowly progressing. I have to keep details hushhush, but seriously, this thing is looking great and is turning out to be more than I imagined it could be. I can't wait to show you guys!

Things I'd like to accomplish in the coming year:
Be more diligent with blogging/communicating/promoting.
Unleash Cold Harbor upon an unsuspecting populace.
Work on better organizing my workflow, scheduling, and planning.

Thanks again, peoples, for making my first year on dA such a fine one!

2500!!

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 12, 2009, 11:34 AM

30-07-08 (00:00 PST) : 0500 page views!
26-10-08 (14:23 PST) : 1000 page views!
12-02-09 (10:49 PST) : 2500 page views!

Sad, I know... I just like watching the numbers roll over :P

Things should pick up now, as I have a PC I'm happy with and I'm getting a better handle on my work flow and efficiency.
More work to come!
Hope you're keeping well,
Mike.

Freelancing = Yay!

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 3, 2009, 3:04 PM

Top 10 reasons I became a freelancer.

1. 'Freelancer' sounds better than 'starving artist'.
2. I make the world's worst employee.
3. Being a starving artist is a great way to lose weight.
4. The parking is much better.
5. No one threatens to fire me if I show up for work in my boxers.
6. My boss is the handsomest, smartest, funniest, and friendliest fellow on the planet.
7. No one questions my definition of 'research' as I carefully study movies, TV shows, novels, and video games. For research.
8. 'Late' or 'early' becomes very subjective.
9. The commute is a grueling 10 feet.
10. 'Work' becomes very subjective.

Of course there are many, many reasons why I SHOULDN'T have become a freelance designer, but I choose to repress those.

Any other freelancers out there?
